Comparing the screen size differences between an iPhone 8 Plus and a iPhone Xs Max. The Xs Max is taller which is a benefit to many forms of use, including the scrolling through of information on content that scrolls up and down.

The Xs has the intrusion into the screen area of the notch area. The iPhone 8 plus has the benefit of a slight amount of extra width. Watching 16:9 video content will not be improved by the extra height offered by the Xs.

In order to make use of the extra height, some zoom into the image would be needed. On the other hand, wider ratio video content will benefit from the extra height minus the notch.

I can not handle having the notch in video content, so that area of the screen would need to be left black for best video enjoyment.
